Pat, I can tell you two not to plant or let your goats near - Avocado and Oleander. Both are toxic to goats. Oleander is toxic to humans as well if ingested. You'll probably have alot of Eucalyptus trees around too. I believe these are okay. There is another shrub called Pyracantha - if I remember right, this is poisonous as well (especially the berries it produces). I know alot of people in SoCal plant it for decoration.
We had such a variety of shrubs and trees when I lived in SoCal that I can't remember all of them. I know that anything in the "nightshade" family is considered poisonous. If you are familiar with "iceplant" you might want to ask around to see if that's okay for them. I know it's pretty hardy. Hope this info helps.
