I think the actual name of the plant is Poke Weed. But many call it just plain Poke. And it is the same plant that is sung about - "Poke Salad Annie." I have seen where it is listed as poisonous since it contains alkaloids. It may only be poisonous to animals because as you already know, alot of people eat at as a salad. The plant never gets to six feet around here (Missouri) because our goats won't let it grow. Between it and the Sassafrass, those two don't get very tall.
