Sounds like they overate and possibly got something that doesn't agree with goats. If he is bloated surely your vet tubed him to get the gas out. I would not let them eat the chicken feed and some goats cannot tolerate much corn. it would be best if they only ate goat feed. Have they had a CDT shot? If not the vet need to give them one and a follow up 3 weeks later then a yearly booster. Some ornamentals are poisonious to goats. They grind their teeth because they are in pain. The gas has to come out, be sure the vet takes care of that. Kay: : we have 2 goats about 7 weeks old, mixed breed (we have never had goats before). We live on a grassy, 5 acre lot, with lots of pine and palm trees and plenty of ornamental bushes. The goats are out all day and have their own goat feed, plus they eat our chickens feed of cracked and whole kernal corn, and laying mash. After being with us for 3 days, they have become slugish, won't eat, seem bloated and grind their teeth. The male has been in the hospital for 3 days now, and our vet is having trouble diagnosing the problem. He says they maybe over feeding, since they come from an area where food is scarce.
: : Does anyone have any thought, that may help us and the goats.
: There are some ornamentals that are poison for goats. I am not familiar with what you have down there as I am in Ontario, Canada. Try drenching with mineral oil 2cc for every LB of goat. Could also be an impacted rumen. What has your vet tried for treatment.? Electrolytes/ gatoraid for dehydration. Is he running a temperature? My best guess would be some kind of poisoning. Lynn
