It depends on where you live as to what wormers you should use and how often. I alternate between Ivomec, Valbazen and SafeGuard. I've read where in some areas Ivomec and SafeGuard aren't very effective anymore but they work great for me and I'm in Western NC.

I give Ivomec at 2cc per 100 lbs orally. Valbazen is double the dose on the bottle and don't use it on does in early stages of pregnancy. SafeGuard is great for kids because you can't overdose on it and it is safe for all stages of pregnancy. I give it at 1cc (squirt it into a syringe or onto your finger if you like that sticky feeling!) per 25 lbs orally. Anybody smaller than 25 lbs. gets a full cc. I have my milkers on the herbal wormer from Hoegger's but every now and again if I'm feeling sadistic I'll dose them with SafeGuard because there's no milk withdrawal. When the kids are about 6 wks old I worm with Valbazen. It's probably safe to use it before then but I never have. If you have any questions about exactly what your worm load is and how often you should be worming, have your vet do a fecal and go from there.

As for vaccines, I use Bar-Vac CD/T. The dose is 2cc per animal no matter what. (Even I can't mess that up!) The label says to give it under the skin but thanks to Vicki (my hero) I've learned it can be given in the muscle and I like that so much better! After the initial dose, it should be given again in about 21 days and then every 6 months after that. Does should be vaccinated 4 wks prior to delivery with CD/T and Bo-Se in selenium deficient areas and while some people give 1/2 cc of Bo-Se to the kids at birth, I wait until mine are about a week old. (ask your vet about that one too). I begin vaccinating the kids for CD/T at 4 wks and again at 8, 12 and 16 weeks and then they get it every six months. It's probably of no use, but since I don't have a big, lush pasture and the hay this time of year is kind of blah, I give my babies 1/2 cc Vit A/D and some Vit B shots every 4-6 weeks.

There are many people who vaccinate for a lot more but I haven't seen the need for it in my area. That's something you'll have to determine from talking to people closer to where you are....and I've rambled on plenty long enough! Look for my next novel at a Wal-Mart near you! Good Luck and Happy Goating!
