Thanksgiving is comming up soon and for those of you who were here last year you know how I feel about the holiday season. Nothing says fun like spening time with my family....except maybe having your teeth pulled. So with my nerves on edge this week started out with a bang. Goathater and I attended an auction 2 weeks ago to buy straw, we came home with 6 rabbits, a pig and 4 goats. So far two of the rabbits died, all of the goats have been sold, and the pig was a roast for our Thanksgiving. The deal with the roaster was you use it, you clean it before and after. The person before me forgot the after part, the charchol was not burnt up (and it was full) so when we washed it out it the coals turned to mudd. It took a whole day and 30#"s of coal to dry it out, did I mention that we figured this out after the pig was ready for the roaster? So now we are thinking no problem we will just have the roast for dinner (this is Saturday) so Sunday nite rolls around and the pig is finally done. Goathater is out hunting and comes in just in time to take the pig out. The only problem was I had waited to late to restart the fire and it was going good about the time we were ready to eat. Making this even better the pig was in a rotissery type deal that is bolted down, the whole thing turns. Ever try getting bolts off from something that has been cooking for two days??? Goathater needs new gloves now. Finally after several trys the bolts are loose, unfortunatly the cage that the bolts were holding was stuck. As I said the coals were burning good and all this has to be done with the lid open of course, and with the lid open the coals get air and the fire takes off. We stopped 4 times before we finally got the top off the cage thing. So 1/2 an hour later the bolts/cage are off, Goathater has stopped swearing and we are ready to carve. Of course the air hits the coals, the fire takes off AGAIN, and the grease from carving the pig hits the coals so the fire goes out of control. Three tries and 1/2hr later we finally got enough for dinner, it is now 10pm. The pig has caught fire twice and at this point we are sure it is cooked. Monday I carved the whole pig, funny how little left there was seems being on fire overcooked about half of it. So after 3 days of trying we finally had our Thanksgiving dinner......Levi would not eat it! Making the week even better on Saturday I heard this awful tire screeching sound and just knew somebody had hit my goats or somebody was in the road. I got up looked out the window all was fine, the sound stopped. Just as I sat down it started again, the stopped, the started thats when the smoke came flooding up from the basement. I am now going to the laundry mat twice a week and just loving it since it's Christmas time maybe Santa will bring me a new washer. Other than that things are good I think. I posted several things on Ebay and they sold well. A pair of custom chaps that a friend of ours swore he would have the money for next week. A month later still no money, I lost $100 but at least my bills will be paid. A kids pair that somebody backed out on durring the summer, then relisted for no bids, now this time they sold well. And a couple of cowhide pillows that were a real pain to make but it seems they are paying off they end today and Friday. Oh and I sent my mare out the first of the month for training this guy is high and I wasn't sure how I would pay for it so we bartered. He took two of my cull Jacob ewes bred for half the training and I offered up my Boer Jr. buck for the other half. He didn't take the buck when he got the lambs so I figured he changed his mind.....He came for the buck this am, I leased the little booger out yesturday. Thats ok it will pay for part of next months training. And now that I was fully motivated to clean barns today the big Lake decided to send a bit of rain our way. At least I got 3 loads of wood in and chores done before it got to bad. So here I sit typing and trying to come up a valid reason as to why I shouldn't sew, and chuckling at Goathater. As crazy as it has been for the last week at least I am not in jury duty right now. Since I can't think of one I am off have a good weekend all.
