The Great Buck Clipping Adventure!
Amber Waves Pygmy Goats 60cc Syringe

As the thermometer reached upwards of 90 degrees, and humidity left the air thick enough to cut air with a knife I thought I'd do my yearling buck a favor and give him his first hair cut. Little Did I think this would end up being difficult.

I've clipped dozens of young and old goats, sheared sheep, beef cattle, dairy cattle, horses, dogs.... easy.. no problems... right?! Even some older does I have never clipped didn't fuss too much during the ordeal. So, the little buck should have been ok... right..???

Well.. This little adventure started me having my doubts when my buck didn't even FIT on my old milkstand. He fit there a few months ago when I was vaccinating.. hmm.. I guess he's grown. (his head rested on the top of my head-gate) Scratching my head I searched for a new idea as he proceded to drag the stand down my isleway.

Ok.. Step two.. I'll just tie him to a beam in the barn. HAHA.. Note to self: No more quick release knots for goats... My buck must have talked to some boy scouts because by the time I came back to that part of the barn with my supplies, he was off nosing with the does throught the fence..

I went to turn on the cheap little dog clippers i've been sneaking by on while i'm waiting for a nice set of shearmasters to ship in. He turns around and just looks at me. I begin my first passes.. HE JUMPED, and he STOMPED.... and he SNORTED.... you'd think I was trying to castrate him or something!!! Of all the animals I've sheared or clipped, this little "poop-head" of a whiney buck was the worst behaved!!! I have 1,500lb Yearling Bulls behaving better then my puny 150lb buck... sigh...

WEll, a pile of hair later, and most of the body hair off... I called it quits when I was more covered in goat hair them him. Just for being a punk, he was left with a nice topline spike cut. :-)

Just thought I'd share my evening adventure with everyone. Just don't laugh too hard because the "bad behaved goat fairy" just may stop by your farm one day, or at that show comming up this fall :-D
