Try to think of letting the goat put their head through something to eat, this way their feet can't get into it. One wall of my barn has wooden slats like a fence, that if they put their head through this goes into the feed room, they reach through to eat their minerals and baking soda, and yes free choice. I do not keep baking soda out this time of the year though. Other feeders are on the walls but are accessable to me from the milk room, so the feed slides down the wall into the feeder, but I don't have to go into the stall with the goats unless I want to. All these feeders have head holes for the goats to put their heads into, but though they could stand on the edge, couldn't stand in, because they go all the way up the wall, and opening for their head, and an opening at the top to put the feed into them.
