Yes you should be feeding medicated feed, and yes your should be treating before you see symptoms. Symptoms can be as mild as having a scruffy coat, to not eating this morning, to diarrhea, and cocci in the system is ruining your goat. They simply can not grow to their potential if they have cocci, because it ruins their small intestine. It builds up scar tissue and makes all the good food, minerals and all not be able to absorb, so the goat will more than likely not be as large, have a scruffy coat for no reason, with everyone looking good, they also get that skinny skeleton look with the big wormy looking belly (ethiopian looking goats).

We worm at 3 weeks, also starting their cocci prevention (albon is fine) we also give them thier first CD&T shot. 21 days late we do all of the above. Then monthly from then on until they are consuming 1 pound of medicated feed we repeat the cocci prevention and worming. Always worming when we wean then from milk, or sell them, or cause them stress. Fecal sampling is fine for yearlings and adults but I think worming and cocci prevention is the best done monthly in young aggressively growing stock. Vicki
