We'd had a couple of cases of suspected plant poisoning the week before the doe died and those does had responded to mineral oil and activated charcoal. (We called the Ag office. Guy came out and walked our pasture. Couldn't find anything but some Mt. Laurel. We fenced that off even though it had been cut down, it did have a few new sprouts on it. The kicker is, that section of pasture has been open for three years with no previous problems but we closed it off anyway.) We didn't think that was what happened to Trixie but as she was going to hell in a handbasket, in desperation we drenched her with that. The dr. at the lab told my husband the "black, oily substance" wasn't in her lungs but asked what it was. He said that whatever killed the doe was there before that. He said she was a perfectly healthy doe that died of pneumonia. No infection, no virus (that he could detect) but she's still dead. This will make me crazy until I figure out what is doing this. If you think of anything else, please throw it out there. Thanks
