I know folks get sick of hearing the same thing over and over again but just in case someone is new, it does no good to use a "very safe" wormer like Safeguard if it doesn't work in your area. My vet will tease you if you use Safeguard here, north of Houston TX, saying that you will get a better kill trying to shot it on the ground on top of them"! We still have great kill with Ivermectin 1% used at 2cc per 100 orally, but injected it will only kill lice, mites and nosebots. This could also be because we used Ivermectin injected alternating with TBZ and thought we were doing such a good job :) Valbazen's warning may limit its use in the first 45 days of a 300+ day cattle pregnancy, which comes out to be about 14 days (implantation period) of a goat pregnancy, the time in which no meds at all should be given to the goat! To not use a wormer pre-breeding or choosing a less than effective one isn't good management, Valbazen stays in the system for less than 12 hours, Ivermectin for a little more than that. It's the carrier that gives you the residues in the milk and meat, neither of which are going to effect the fetus. We just wish we could keep resisdues of wormers in the goats systems!! I haven't used Cydectin yet on my own stock, though had wonderful kill with it on some broker does. Vicki
