I would recommend careful observation of the "hematoma" as these are very prone to develop into abscesses, and throat abscesses can be nasty to deal with, depending on the exact location. Also, you can get by with giving the Penicillin just once daily for 3 to 5 days. If infection should set in and persist beyond three to five days, consult your veterinarian for a change in antibiotic protocol.
