With having a really good milker like you do and with her being young, I also would let her have about as much grain as she will eat. The best way to do it is to watch her condition. Good hay out is a must, and loose minerals, some baking soda would be good, but after you milk her and she finsihes her grain, run your hands over her ribs. Do you just feel ribs and skin? Than let her eat more. Do you feel some ribs, but some flesh under the skin? Than keep your feeding program just like it is. Do you feel a roll of fat under the skin? Back off the grain. Most of my girls eat 4 pounds of grain each day and all the good hay they want. The powder could be the minerals. I feed my donkeys a dry grain mix, though they lick up the powdered minerals after they eat the grain. It really is amazing how those big lips can pick up each piece of good stuff individually!
