Got my now 3 1/2 legged goat home ... put him in the chicken coop I've converted to a hospital pen ... the whole time, he and his brother are bawling frantically at each other. Now, this goat has a brother who's the exact opposite. Houdini, my injured boy, is a golden retriever in the body of a goat. Einstein is stupid and obstinate, and that's being polite. But they're extremely attached to each other ... never been apart a day before Houdini got hurt.

Houdini, of course, is boss. I've never seen the two of them fight, but Houdini was definitely #1 and Einstein #2.

Anyway, I put Houdini in his pen, and let Einstein out of the stall where I'd stuck him. Einstein walked up to Houdini ... and I promptly had a full scale through-the-wire goat fight. Einstein had sized the situation up in about three heartbeats, and attacked his brother through the wire in what I assume was an attempt at a coup. Houdini, three-legged or not, was more than willing to defend his position.

So I carried Einstein (who probably weighs 85 pounds) bodily back to his stall. Guess I don't reintroduce them until Houdini's healed enough to either hold his own or at least not rip his sutures out in the process of losing his position as #1 ...

Sigh. Goats will be goats. Guess I'm glad I didn't follow my first impulse, which was to put Einstein IN the pen with Houdini. They were so tight, it never occurred to me that Einstein would turn on his brother like that ...

Of course, they're now bawling frantically for each other. The horse stall and Houdini's pen are on opposite sides of the house.
