I read Goat World all the time, but this is the first time I have responded to something. I have raised meat goats for seven years. I have Boers and Boer crosses. I have an advantage of having 100 acres for my goats, some in pasture and some in woods. We have fenced many acres for the goats and rotate our goats. I have very few health problems with my goats. It is rare that I give any antibotics. I do use Cydectin as part of my worming program, however, I have a rotating worming schedule which has worked very well for me.
I feed them some oats in the summer. I always have minerals and baking soda available. In the winter, I do switch back to a goat feed. My goats are healthy and shiny. We have some registered so my children can show them and many more that are not registered.
We have a steady customer market. My customers tell me that I raise a healthy product and I charge a fair price. The occasions I take goats to auction, I get top dollar. I probably won't get rich but I make a fair income off of my goats and what is even more important -- I love working with the goats.
