Adding Goat Pictures to GoatWorld (or other options)

Posted by GoatWorld on October 21, 2001 at 01:07:02:

Hi folks,

Some of you might already know that there is a GoatWorld Picture Show that has been going on for about a year now. Unfortunately I haven't always had alot of time (or space) to add pictures as often as I used to.

Since each of you are "members" to the forum, I've been giving some thought to how I would go about the next phase of "membership benefits". One such idea that I've had is to make the Picture Show a "members only" submission feature - anyone can view the pictures, only members may post them for viewing.

I don't want to lose anyone here with "technical talk" but I have to explain some basics so you know what I'm dealing with: pictures take up space and that space is what is at a premium for the most part. With everyone submitting pictures to post, you can see that space is easily gobbled up and people can feel sleighted if their pictures are not added or the pictures of theirs that have been added, are suddenly deleted.

Okay, so here's what I am thinking will work the best: I can set up a feature where you can upload your pictures, describe them, and then have them available for the rest of us to see. Leah just got two new Saanen does and I am sure she wants the rest of us to see them. Something like this would be perfect for that.

It will be a system where you already have your "member" account and you can easily login, upload or manage your pictures. Manage also means delete pictures too.

The other option is that, if you have your own web site or place that you can store your picture files online, you can always reference them in a message and they will appear in the message. Either way is fine.

Again, I know that some of you are new to computers and haven't a clue what I'm talking about here. Please send me your questions, thoughts and ideas no matter how dumb you think they might be. While we are here to talk goats, it is because of the computer that we are able to talk goats. So that means that I can try to help you learn a few simple things about how to merge goats and the Internet into a simple, easily understood process.

Best regards,

Gary
