LUMPY FEED???

Posted by Helene on October 29, 2001 at 15:02:27:

Let me ask you guys a question. Those who feed goat chow or sweet feed..Do you have a problem with it comming to you all clumped up in a block in the winter time?

Lately we when we have been buying our feed a lot of it is all clumpy. I also noticed that there was some mold on the clumps in one bag and as soon as I saw it I threw it out. Today when I went to buy feed when the guy was hauling it over to my car I noticed it looked as thought it was in one big huge brick. Sure enough when I touched the bag it was all solid. When I asked the guy about it he said that is what happens to molassis in the winter time it gets all clumpy. He checked other bags and they were all like that..I decided not to purchase that bag of feed, for fear when I got home there would be mold in it again.

So I had no choice but to buy the medicated pellets which was my only other option, unless I wanted to just feed shelled or cracked corn, which I did not want to do. I do not like to feed medicated feed does anyone have any other suggestions for winter feeding? I was under the assumption you could get pellets that is not medicated, but it does not seem so here in our town anyway.
