Hi folks,

I just received this request to respond to an article being written about tethering goats. Here is the original request which I will follow-up with my response in the next message.

Hi Gary

This time last week I sent you an email about an article I'm writing. In case it's gone astray, I'm sending you the text of the message again and hope you will be able to get back to me fairly soon. I'm sure New Zealanders would be interested to read what the webmaster of Goatworld.com has to say on the subject of tethering. Here's the message again:

I am a freelance journalist writing an article for New Zealand readers about the practice of tethering animals, particularly goats. This is partly in response to sporadic letters to the editor and occasional court reports concerning ill treatment and neglect of tethered goats.

I note that in your website article about keeping pet goats you advise against tethering and give your reasons. You don't say anything, though, about keeping a goat on its own and I would like to know what you think of this, either tethered or free range.

Even if the owner does take the goat for walks, as you and your wife do with your goats, this would surely occupy only a small part of any day or week. How do you think a life without the company of other goats might affect an individual? Also, if they do take their goat(s) for walks, could this make it(them) vulnerable to uncontrolled dogs?

I am keen to include your comments in the article and would also appreciate your permission to quote a few paragraphs from the article.

Look forward to hearing from you.
