Hi everyone,
Goatmom, I'll be looking forward to those pictures of Colorado! The last time I was there was nearly 20 years ago and it was in Colorado Springs. I fell in love with it because I felt so good there healthwise. It must have been the altitude and the mountains. Of course I was only there a week, but lived there 3 years as a young child. I actually like rolling green hills, it's just that our property is very steep which might be okay except for all the rocks. Every time I go to feed/water the goats, I feel like I'm walking in a fun house. The view is beautiful..just hard to work and walk on.
Helene, thanks for your email address. I'll be sending you some info on the soaps and you can decide if you want to try them.
As far as training the kitten or any of the animals go, I guess my methods work pretty well in general...although the goats give me a run for my money.. I just try to think like them as much as possible, observe what they are comfortable doing and incorporate that into what I want them to do. For example, we put the mom and the kitten up in the attic and brought them back down.then put them up there again and say hello every now and then to make sure they are okay. I talk to them just like when I'm playing with them to make it seem like fun. After I brought them back in from the building where we keep our young chicks, I pulled down the attic ladder, showed the mom some dry food, put her on the ladder and she climbed right up into the attic to eat it and drink some water from the bowl I left up there for her. Of course the kitten wanted to be with mom, so I put her up on the ladder too and she joined mom up there. When I asked them if they wanted back down, they said "no thanks" and started playing with one another, running among the rafters. So far, so good... Oh and Goatmom, I took a chance leaving the brooder door open with the cats in there, because I am training the chicks to go in and out of their "house" for when we put them outside. To avoid trouble, I showed the cats a dead mouse that Chester (our dog)had killed and told them to find some more like it was a game. I petted the chicks in front of them...told them "nice," which is what I tell the dogs so that they won't eat family members and watched to see if there would be any casualties. There were not. There are also two rabbits (ours) in there and cats, chickens, chicks and rabbits all get along so far. Even the dogs (except Ranger)leave the other animals alone unless Wilbur the pig lets himself out and is wandering around. Then Klondike (our Pyr who is free range)chases him to go back into the goat pen where he was sleeping comfortably with the goats piled next to him last night. Ah....they are all so cute when they are asleep, aren't they? Animals, kids and husbands...LOL
