The vet called Friday with the confirmation. My little aborted doelings had toxoplasmosis. They found it in their brains on necropsy. The mama of course had a high titer too. Out of 11 kids this year I have lost 5 so far. Only time will tell what happens with the remaining 9 pregnant does. On the up side the vet said that it seems to be quite rare in cattle. I am hoping so becasue we have seven cows bred for this spring.
The bad thing is there is not a thing that I can do now except pray for the rest of the does and believe me that is what I am doing. It is out of my hands at this point.
The vet is thinking that this is due to the extremely mild winter we have had that the toxo bug just has been able to multipy without interruption. That being the case, I bet we will have a bad parasite year to look forward to also!
