We had a tragedy here last night. Jeffie, my 11 y/o son was putting a baby goat over he fence when the goat got his leg caught. He was coming out for a bottle so the goat rand up and drank his quart of milk. I noticed he didn't stand on his leg but I was milking so I couldn't check it out right away. I did though and couldn't see a break at first but then looked up higher and about lost my supper. He had a compound fracture of his lower back leg. It was a scrape in the skin about two inches long with white bone poking through. We called out vet and she met us at her clinic. She is so good, I just love her to death. But anyhow, she only gave the goat a 50 50 chance to heal correctly without infection. She was going to have to put him under anesthesia and do major surgery to repair him. She said it would be a major project after all that. So, being a mom, I made the tough call and had the little guy put down. I held his little head and it went very quietly and quickly. It was such a sad thing to happen. Jeffie has taken it very hard. He feels so responsible. The vet told him these things just happen and not to feel bad. I of course yelled at him when it happened and I feel bad. We are ready for a better day here. Dalice
