You can easily overdose on selenium, go easy. BoSe is by prescription only that's why you couldn't find it in the stores.

Two of the adverse effects of Nuflor are anorexia (lack of appetite), decreased water consumption and DIARRHEA. You may wish to rethink giving this drug. Oxytet does not have these adverse effects.

Gie a probiotic or yogurt (a couple of teaspoons in their formula twice a day) to help keep the intestinal microbes up.

How much BoSe did the kid get?

I started antibiotic therapy yesterday for all 3 kids. This morning they already have loose stools, no change in color - they are still mustard yellow. I've started adding pro-bios to their formula. Should I do anything else to help prevent loose stools or is it inevitable becauses of the antibiotics? They will be on them for 10 days. They are all eating well and urination sufficient amounts. I'm just concerned that if they continue to have loose or watery stools they will become dehydrated.

I initially began the treatment for White Muscle Disease. Then some new symtoms pointed more toward Joint Ill, which the treatment is now aimed toward. Should I still consider WMD? I was unable to find Vitamin E with Selenium liquid injectable anywhere within a 2 hour drive surrounding area. The kid who is most symptomatic did have a Bo-Se injection that I got from the vet. I purchased Vitamin E 200 I.U. softgels and Selenium 200mcg tablets at Wal-mart. Is it okay to squeeze the liquid from the softgels and crush the tablets to powder form and mix this in with their formula to assure they are getting enough vitamin E & selenium just in case this is WMD?

Thank you!
Sincerely,
Tina

I lost one of my kids born by c-section 1/15. He was weak & required tube feeding. This morning he was even weaker & unable to stand. He died around 10am. We buried him beside his brother that died shortly after birth.

I called my vet this morning. She recommended Nuflor .05ml now and again in 48 hours. I picked up the med and gave the first injection this evening. I also am going to give Oxytetracycline as you recommended 1ml per 30 pounds, once a day SQ for 10 days. That works out to only 0.1 ml per injection, don't seem like it very much, but I guess for as little as they are it is good?

Thanks.

It can take a week or so to see the results of giving BoSe. Won't hurt to mix a bit of porbios with their formula.

I will go get the oxytetracycline first thing in the AM.

The vet gave me 1 dose of Bo-Se to give to one of my kids. I gave it yesterday. How long until the effects are seen if this would be white muscle disease?

I am going to treat the 3 kids showing symptoms. Should I mix any pro-bios powder in their formula to help prevent GI distress from the antibiotics?

Thank you so much Maggie! I don't know what I would do without all the help you have given me.
Sincerely,
Tina

No use oxytet. Treat ALL of the kids that even remotely show symptoms. Oxytet is only countered by milk if given orally and you give it by injection. It might stain his permanent teeth though it never has on any of the kids I treated and they all grew up to be happy and healthy. Joint ill causes irreversible joint damage and can become systemic and kill very rapidly. You want it to settle in the bones (and joints) if treating joint ill that's what makes it so effective. It is only detrimental if given for a very long time (30 to 60 days). I have done this treatment several times with spectacular results.

Won't hurt to also treat for white muscle disease bu giving BoSe, 1/3 to 1/2 cc by SQ injection one time. But this weakness usually shows at birth. You are in a selenium deficient area.

This makes sense now! Two of my other babies are having difficulty standing and walking - their joints seem stiff causing them to walk straight legged. I was thinking possibly a lack in selenium/vitamin E.

The info I read on oxytetracycline says it is counteracted by milk and not to use in kids under 6 moonths because it may interfere with bone & teeth formation.

Can I use Tylan, it says it is good for mycoplasma, chamydia, rickettsia, mycoplasma arthritis in youn kids. I have this on hand and also Pen G Procaine. I can get something different tomorrow if needed, but I would like to start treatment immediately.

Thanks.

If he were mine I would begin treatment for joint (navel) ill). FOr this give oxytetracycline at 1 cc per 30 pounds by SQ injection once a day for a full 10 dyas. If it is joint ill you may see a dramatic improvement in 2 days or less.

My 11 days old Pygmy/Nigerian Dwarf/Mini Long Haired Fainting goat cross is not bearing any weight on his left back leg. I do not feel any fractures, no swelling or deformities to that leg. The only thing that could have happened is one of the bigger goats head-butted him.

I brought him in the house with the other bottle babies that need extra care and gave him a dose of liquid childrens ibuprofen po. I thought about ice or heat to the area but I don't want to chill him or make him to warm.

Is there anything else I can do for him?

Thanks.
Tina
