I am using Fortified B and yes they are still acting drunk not much better than yesterday. Could Pneumonia cause this? Do you have anymore suggestions? I would like to THANK YOU for the help that you have given me already.

Are you using Fortified B complex or the regular B complex? If they have polio and you give enough thiamin you should see an improvement in an hour or so. But it only lasts for a while, about 2 to 4 hours then you have to give more.

Are they still staggering, walking in circles acting drunk?

I picked up the Biosol and started them on it. I also noticed that after the AM feeding today that they all seem to have runny noses (cloudy discharge) most likly pneumonia so I also gave them LA200. The vet that I use said that I can give both meds. at the same time. How soon do you notice if the B1 is helping? I haven't noticed much change in them yet, they still drink most of the bottle.

Polio is not contagious. Please continue with the B1 on the schedule I listed. Scours can kill a kid very fast by causing dehydration and blood chemistry imbalances.

Thanks for the info. I gave all of them a dose of the B1 and took their temps. they range from 103.6-105 so I will get some Biosol in the AM when the store opens. This PM the pen smelt like scours. If they do have polio should I treat the rest of my goats? I have more of them in the barn, but they are seperated some of thoses have runny noses but it is clear discharge some coughing. The ones coughing have been started on LA200 which has been working well for me.

But 10 day old kids are too young for coccidia which need 3 weeks or so to become infective and active. Likely the diarrhea was from something the kid ate or too much milk, or it could be e. coli or salmonella. This is treatable with Biosol or ScourHalt using the directions for piglets.

Yes start them on B1 now on the schedule I outlined. Diarrhea (espeically from coccidia) can certainly cause polio. If you suspect coccidia you MUST treat for 5 full days. One treatment may help for a day or two but the coccidia will recover and come back. The probiotics will help somewhat but the SMZ you gave also kills the bacteria in the probiotic...

1 of them did receive SMZ yesterday for scours but I also gave it 5cc of probiotic. No one else has the runs. They are still on bottles but do have access to hay if they want it, just started offering grain today. I will check their temps. to see if altered. Should I seperate them from other goats? There are 4 others in the group, should I also give them B1 just in case?

This sounds like polio. If it is the only effectie treatment is to give thiamin (Vitamin B1) in fairly high doses at frequent intervals until the digestive microbes recover and start producing thiamin again. You can use Fortified B Complex injectable and give 1 cc per 20 pounds (give at least 1 cc) by SQ injection every 2 to 4 hours for the first day, then 2 to 3 times for 5 to 7 more days. Polio can kill quickly, it causes the brain to swell and nerve tissue to die.

This can also be a symptom of enterotoxemia which usually has a high fever. Check their temp. Normal is 101.5 to 103.5.

Are they on solid food or still on a bottle? Any change in feed, forage or hay? Have you given any medications such as Corid? Do they have diarrhea?
