Thank you so much Maggie! I'll put my foot down with the vet and oxytet and keep you posted on Jack's progress.

The teeth grinding is pain and ulcers do hurt. Giving motrin if he has ulcers will make that worse. If he were mine I would try the oxytet (1 cc per 30 pounds by SQ injection once a day, give a double dose the first time or 2). Oxytet is really quite safe, don't be stingy at this point, this has gone on long enough. If he doesn't improve in 4 or 5 days then discontinue it. But if he does improve keep giving it for a full 10 days. Give probios or yogurt daily to replenish his digestive microbes.

Ahhh, that would make sense with the sensitive spot. My vet keeps shying me away from trying the oxytet. He thinks it's not the Joint Ill anymore. I didn't realize it could effect the organs, etc. My vet always has some reason why we shouldn't use the oxytet. After all the antiobiotics we've already done, should I try the oxytet still? Any other suggestions on how to make this little guy better? He constantly grinds his teeth as well. I was giving him motrin but the vet said he thinks it's ulcers not pain........ I'm so frustrated! Thanks for all your help Maggie!

Joint ill can become systemic and involve any bone or joint and can infect any organ. It basically IS a systemic infection that seems to settle in the joints but also affects the liver, kidneys and other organs.

And yes you are pinching him in a sensitive spot it is one we use in the show ring to get the goat to level out their spine, most goats will squat down when you pinch or push there some will do it when you just stroke or scratch.

His legs don't seem to hurt and aren't swollen anymore. You can bend them freely with no complaint from him. He seems to be in a lot of pain today. When I pick him up to feed him etc. he crys out. If I lift his head very high he crys. He normally doesn't fuss at all when I'm moving him/picking him up etc. and today he really is. Again, it seems like his back hurts.... I'm really worried that something is severely wrong. His back right in front of his hips has a couple soft spots on both sides of his spine and are very sensitive to touch. Is that his kidneys by chance? I don't know much on goat anatomy (obviously). I'm getting desperate on what to do for him.

Could be the joint ill has relapsed. They don't usually run a fever with joint ill, that's what always used to stump me.

I have written before about one of my Nubians triplets that was born very weak and had Joint Ill. It seems we got over the Joint Ill but he's still not thriving. One day he can stand and walk the next he's a limp noodle. The vet can't figure out what's going on. He can barley lift his head and it almost seems to hurt him when you lift it at a normal height. Even when he does stand or walk he keeps his head pretty low. The vet came him a B complex shot with A & D, has him on a different antiobiotic again and gave him a C&D shot. No fever. To me it seems almost as if somethings wrong with his spinal cord. But why go from walking and looking like he was going to get better to back down to nothing??? Help!!
