Hi,
This most likely is CL that is a good site for a lump to appear.
Yes you need to isolate her a it is catching if the lump ruptures and the pus gets on any of the goats.
If you would like to lmow how to lance and clean it just email me and i would be glad to help you.

Today I noticed a golf ball sized cyst under the left ear of a Boar doe. I had just read your response to Paul Gooden who had the same problem. You did not say if she should be isolated from the rest of the heard or not. We have no vets around here that are familiar with goats. What kind of plan were you talking about.

Maggie you are so kind to help us! What a relief!

Here's a funny for you. We have never been on this forum before. When we went down the list of "problems", we continually saw your name and thought YOU were the one that had goats with all the problems. We thought "you poor thing"! Anyway, when you responded to my question, I at first thought, why in the world wld I want someone with so many goat problems answering me! haha

Again, thank you so much for responding - you have been great!

The "colorless" eye is just filmed over. If you look closely you can see the iris and pupil under the film. With treatment it will clear again. The one with the bump may have a wound or abscess not pinkeye. Just keep an eye on that. But with one with pinkeye you are almost assured of having more. Watch for squinting and tears and begin treatment promptly.

Thank you so much for your answer. Just a few more questions if I can.

The one goat who keeps her eye closed - it looks like it is colorless so is she now blind? Will that eye go back to the normal color?

The other goat that has a lump under her eye has completely normal looking eyes - just this big golf ball size lump under her eye - but not in the eye.

Is this still pinkeye?

We have never had any sick goats even though we have had them for 3 years.

Thanks so much for your response!

Brenda

Your goats have pinkeye. I have found that giving oxytetracycline (LA 200, Biomycin 200) 1 cc per 30 pounds once a day by SQ injection until the eyes are clear. Also use triple antibiotic eye ointment (many feed stores carry this and all vets have it) 1 to 3 times a day will help sooth the eye. Do not use penicillin it counteracts the eye ointment.

Watch for goats that are just beginning to squint or have an eye that is tearing or red and begin treatment. If you catch it very early you may have to treat only for a few days.

You can wash their faces around their eyes with a very dilute solution of listerine and water to help prevent hair loss from the tears. it is spread by cheek to cheek contact, contact with feeders, hay racks, fences and water toughs that have been contaminated with tears.

Most people who keep goats will have to deal with pinkeye at some point.

The vaccine used for pinkeye in cattle does not work for goats, it is not the same bacteria that causes it.

This is very contagious, you can get it too. Be sure to not touch your face and to wash your hands very well after treating.

Please HELP! Yesterday all our goats seem fine. Today one goat has an eye that she keeps closed most of the time but when she opened it briefly, it looked nearly colorless! Second goat has a large swelling under her eye but her eyes look fine so far. Please help me figure out what could be going on! We have 3 babies and a total herd of 10.
