Since he has always been a poor doer I would try treating for joint ill (systemic infection) even if he doesn't have swollen or painful joints. I have seen kids improve in less than 2 days. Tube with milk or electrolytes if you have to to get some nutrition into him.

He is nursing his dam. He did get colostrum that first day. I knew he didn't nurse this morning, because I milk his dam and she gave 25% more than she usually does. Because he is always been so sick, I don't separate him at night. He is more important than the milk from his momma.

For a kid his temp is a bit low. Did he get colostrum at birth? Is he nursing his dam or a bottle?

One day of penicillin is useless, but there is alot of resistance to it now anyway. The correct dose for penicillin is 1 cc per 15 to 20 pounds by SQ injection twice a day for at least 5 days..Nuflor can cause a loss of appetite because it attacks the digestive microbes. Try giving a probiotic to replenish these microbes. Give Goat Nutridrench (about 5 to 10 cc once or twice a day). Tube with milk or electrolytes to keep him hydrated.

Giving the CDT vaccine before 8 weeks old is useless and may actually be harmful. A vaccine works by stimulating the immune system to make antibodies. A kid doesn't really have a functional immune system until about 8 to 10 weeks old. Some vaccines will use up the antibodies the kid got from the colostrum and may leave them with less protection from disease.

It is possible he has a systemic infection like joint ill. I have had good results giving oxytetracycline (LA 200 or Biomycin 200) at 1 ccper 30 pounds by SQ injection once a day for 10 days. Give a probiotic during this.

You can try benedryl at 1 cc per 10 pounds every 6 hours but it can cause a loss of appetite and lethargy too. I don't think allergies are his problem.

I forgot to mention that his temp is 101.2 and he still has very labored breathing.

Buckling born April 15 (with twin brother). Both were very weak. Treated with Mu-se (only because of all the vets I called, I couldn't find Bo-se). Next day, smaller kid was dead and this one was stronger. He came down with a runny nose and labored breathing within a day. His runny mucus was thick and white. I have treated with Nuflor 3 times. The first two times, the treatment was 1/2cc every 3 days for 3 doses SQ. The third treatment was 1/2cc every other day for 3 doses IM. He has continually gotten better then worse. I treated with Pen G on Wednesday last week. Today is Saturday and is not nursing. He has been wormed and given CDT shot at one month. I am not sure how else to treat him. Also, his runny nose is mostly clear to white. He walks with head down and mostly just lies around. He has had a hard road since his birth. Any ideas?

I was reading some previous posts and read about using Benedryl. If this is to be tried, what are the doses and will it have to be given for his whole life?
