All goats naturally carry the Types C and D clostridial bacteria in their digestive tracts. Most goats are routinely vaccinated for neterotoxemia caused by the C or D Clostidial bacteria. Giving the antitoxin won't hurt, and you don't have time to test.

Did you test for CDT? Before you started giving antoxin for it? You could have 1 goat tested or maybe the milk of one who lost a kid it maybe cheaper this way. Also you can check for CAE and other reasons. Before assuming you have CDT on your hands check. You certainly don't want to use somthing not needed.
I use nutradrench for goats on every new baby kid right away.
Also make sure they are nursing in the first 3 hours of life. Kids rarely make it passed 12 hours without nursing. A kid would seem fine until it is almost to late.
At that point you must force feed the kid. Sometimes they put up quit a fight, you must force the kid to eat or it will die.
I had to do this once it was very heart renching as the kid seems to want to die at this point. Stick to it. With in a 24 hour period the kid should start to bottle feed enthusasticlly.
Good Luck
Michelle

Try around the shoulders and just behind the elbow. I believe it may work as well given orally to one this young too, but it tastes very very bad.

Maggie:

We've got a day old kid that I'd like to give the CD antitoxin. But, oh, there's almost no loose skin on that little thing. Where do you give the shot, and how much?

Thank you,
Sophie

Have one necropsied (animal autopsy). Most sudden deaths are enterotoxemia. A kid at the end of a bout of entero will be gasping for breath...

The best protection against entero is a dam that is up to date on her CDT vaccine and that has been boostered 4 to 6 weeks before kidding. You can alos give newborn kids CD antitoxin at birth and every 3 weeks or so until they are about 10 weeks old and ready to vaccinate.

I would put all those babies on Fastrack JumpStart Gel to give them a really good start and to give them extra protection.

Our goats all started having babies the first week of May, and we finally stopped the first of June, ending up with about 25 live kids. We had some we found out in the field already dead, which we figured was because the moms were leaving them there all day to eat after having them. Since then our babies have started dropping rather quickly. We've already lost three just this past week. They don't seem to show any signs the night before, and when I go to feed the next night they're dead. It started as the smaller, weaker looking ones that were dieing, but now we're losing ones that seem to be the healthier ones. Is there something in my herd? I just tried to save the latest death, but it didn't work. I found it in the field fighting for breath. That's the only problem we can pin point because, like I said, we have no warning. THey seem fine until we find them dead. Please Help!
