It is not really safe to keep a young buck in with near term does. As a doe gets vey close to giving birth the fluids she secretes smells just like a doe in heat. She can actually be beginning labor, unable to fight him off or move and he will be breeding her. He will also rebreed her and have her pregnant again in less than 2 months. He will likely breed all of the young does and can be very abusive to young bucklings.

Try putting him and the wether together. I often house weanling bucks with my older bucks and they gat along great! The older goat doesn't view the younger smaller goat as a threat or a challenge. If his pen is within sight of the doe pen he could do fine alone for now.

Make sure the buck's pen does not adjoin the doe pen. Goats can and will breed through the fence.

Is it safe to keep a young buck with does as they are getting close to giving birth? The buck is about 8 months old. He has been with the does since he was about 3 months old. Or should I go ahead and separate him and put him in a paddock alone. He is a boer and the only other goat I have that could keep him company is a pygmy wether and I feel that he is too small to be this little boer's companion. }}}}
