Well I took one of my small girls in cause she had been couging forever-I wrote in a couple of times about her and then all of sudden it looked liked she lost a lot of weight. The vet took her temp and it was 104 and checked her chest and he said she had really bad pneumonia. Gave her 1 1/2 cc nuflor every other day for 2 doeses IM and 1/2 cc banamine once a day for 2 days and she is a different goat now - completely lovingly annoying. The other one she was in with also sounded horrible gave her her two shots and sounds better but still very rattlely and she did get horrible scours so I also gave her 2cc vit b and 2cc scour halt which seems to have helped.

Instead of continuing on for an hour is there anyway I can call you- I'm very concerned.

The temp of 103.7 is within normal range especially if it is warm there. Sounds more like an upper respiratory infection maybe even a viral infection. My goats don't cough with pneumonia but they do when they have a "cold". Nuflor may not be your best choice, it can cause diarrhea and anorexia it very effectively kills the digestive microbes. It may not be effective unless given during the first days of the infection, the dose is 1 cc per 50 pounds given SQ every 4 days. I personally prefer Naxcel at 1 cc per 50 pounds given by SQ injection once or twice a day for 5 days. It won't hurt to treat all of the animals but I am not sure you will really get the results you want. It's your call though. IF the goats are eating and drinking well not otherwise acting sick except for a cough (nasal or eye discharge?) if this were my herd I might wait and see.

Treating a goat that is not sick leads to bacteria that is antibiotic resistant, it does not PREVENT disease. Antibiotics do not actually kill bacteria, it only weakens it to the point that the animal's own immune system can handle the infection. So if the goat's immune system isn't up to the job the antibiotics don't really do much good.

Your pens and shed sound pretty overcrowded, this can certainly lead to stress and sickness, especially respiratory sickness. Standard sized goats should have at least 30 square feet (that is a space 5 x 6 feet) of shed space per goat. It is the stress of the overcrowding and the lousy weather that weakens the immune system and makes the goats vulnerable.

Do they have access to minerals with enough copper? Copper is essential to a strong immune system. I know I harp on minerals alot but this was the BIG turning point in my own herd. I got that right and many of my disease problems disappeared.

I have 11 in a pen at least 4 coughing with possible pneumonia took one temp so far at 103.7 should I treat them all? All my other pens are full and they all sleep in shed together and it's been raining now for almost a week which means they've all been huddled together for extended period of time. I just don't want to keep going round and round with the pneumonia. Possible others sick in other pens and I have doelings and bucks I can't put together etc...Can it hurt to treat all if almost half of the pen has it? And finally Can I give Nuflor to pregnant does? Please help I'm very worried.
