Ray Ray is improving daily. The discharge is now thin and white, almost foamy. His labored breathing on inhilation is reducing. I've continued with the Nuflor and expectahist. He is due for his fourth Nuflor shot today. Banamine has been discontinued. Thank you Maggie. Do you think that this was an allergy that turned into pneumonia?

His temp is very low be sure to insert the thermometer at least 2 inches. Give the nuflor, hold off on the banamine to see if his temp comes back up to normal (at least 101). Do not give the dexamethazone. The saline spray may be very helpful!

Ray Ray seems better this morning! He is less congested this morning. His breathing difficulty is definitely on inhalation. Mucous discharge is slight and white in color. His temperature is 98.9. He stood the entire time I was working with him. He ate some goat treats. He drank some water last night.
Maggie, he will be due for his next Nuflor shot today (1st one was Sat at 11PM). What should I give him? More banamine with the Nuflor?
This how I've treated him. He weighs 300lbs. Sat. night, I gave him Nuflor at 6ccs IM and 6ccs SQ and expectahist. Sunday at PM, I gave him 3cc IM banamine and expectahist. This morning, I gave him expectahist. Maggie, He's better so we're doing the right thing. I just want to be sure the course continues on the right track. What should I do for him this afternoon? Maggie, thank you for helping me care for my best buddy.
The vet I talked with last night, suggested spraying saline in his nostrils. What are your thoughts about this?

Maggie, I am leaving in a few minutes to check on Ray Ray. I did speak with a vet last night. He said our course of treatment was a good one. He did suggest dexamethasone, but that I should not give it after giving him banamine. What are your thoughts on this. I do have dexamethasone, but don't know what the dosage should be and if I give it to him when (he received banamine around 5PM yesterday).

I just returned from treating Ray Ray with banamine and expectahist. He is still sounding really wet in his breathing particularly on inhilation. His nares are open more but still not permitting good full airflow. He shows interest in eating but won't. He will stand but prefers to lie down.
Maggie, I hope that with your help we can bring my best buddy through this.

My babies are big Boers! Most of ours have horns. Ray Ray is my best buddy. He's always with me helping put buildings back up or making sure that the bucks don't hurt me when I have to treat them.
thank you for your help with my best buddy, Ray Ray. I'll let you know how he's doing.

Nuflor is given every 2 days if given by IM injection at 3.5 cc per 100 pounds, or every 4 days if given by SQ injection at 3 cc per 100 pounds. I think the expectahist is a good idea. I have used banamine daily for up to a week with no problems, but I don't think he will need it that long. I give usually give it once a day at 1 cc per 100 pounds and it try to give as light a dose as I think will work. He won't run a fever if he is on banamine.

I'll bet he got slammed on his tender nose. Funny thing (well not funny to Tsavo, one of my bucks) at feeding time Dan noticed he had gotten punched in the nose by his pen mate. But only one side is swollen (and bloody!) so he is breathing okay. I bet your guys (and gals) have got horns too right?

Maggie,
It is possible that he's been hit. He is the head of our herd and there is one other buck who will test him.
I just checked on him. His temperature is 101. His breathing is better, the nares are not collapsed as they had been. He's still "snuffing", and breaths are short. There is no nasal discharge.
I'll give him banamine today. When can I give it to him again? I know that this is a medication that you need to be careful with. Please let me know if I am correct, since I gave him Nuflor last night (Sat), his next dosage will be tomorrow (Mon)? I think I should continue with the expectahist, what do you think?
Thank you!

I woudl continue the Nuflor and also give banamine at 1 cc per 100 pounds. It is a strong anti inflammatory and pain killer and may help open swollen nasal and airway passages. Is it possible he took a hard hit to the nose or face?

Ray Ray has a history of a chronic runny nose. I've been told that it is a familial allergy. Yesterday and today he has had difficulty breathing. Nares are almost closed and he has a clear to cloudy white discharge. It is as if his nasal passages are swollen or there is an obstruction making it difficult for him to breathe. His temperature is 102.6. His eyelid color is pink and he was just dewormed last week.
Until the lasts two days he was actively pursuing the does and was also demonstrating his strength with our other large bucks. Tonight, I found him in an isolated area of the pasture away from the barn and feed area. I was able to get him to the barn with my pushing and giving him several rest stops along the way.
I've treated him with expectahist (liquid decongestant, antihistamine, expectorant) and gave him a shot of Nuflor. He did not want to eat tonight, but did eat yesterday. I really don't have any idea what I'm dealing with nor what the right course of treatment is.
I have him in the barn. Our night temperature will be in the 30's again tonight which is a 20 degree drop from what we have been having lately. Our day temperature is in the high 60's to low 70's. I'm sure that this is not helping the situation for him.
