That's good! The sales around here are deplorable if one is looking for healthy stock, everything is comingled pretty much, exposing each goat to a multitude of "sins". And the stress level for goats going through a sale is very high. Why not buy straight from the seller or does he not do it that way?

But even buying from some supposedly reputable breeders one can inadvertently bring in nasty bugs. Years ago I bought an entire show herd which appeared to be perfect pictures of health (for about a week!), and introduced both a very virulent pinkeye AND soremouth to my nice clean herd. Of course those run their course and you are done with them but it drove home the need for quarantine no matter where the animals come from. I had put them in a separate but adjoining pasture and it spread right through the fence (of course goats can't resist checking out the next door neighbors). Years ago a well known pygmy breeder brought Johne's to her herd by having a soft heart and taking "rescues". She wound up having to destroy nearly her entire herd including some pregnant goats and go goatless for 3 years and moving her pastures and bringing in a new floor for her barn before she felt it was safe to have goats again. I now quarantine in a completely separate pen and shelter, which are portable if the need arises.

Go with your instincts as for how long you need to quarantine but it is better to be safe than sorry.

I would suggest at least 2 weeks. The best would be for a month. This allows them to settle in, for you to get them on the same diet as the rest of the goats and for any disease problem to surface. They may very well break with shipping fever (an upper respiratory disease), pinkeye, soremouth or worse (like CL) and really should be dewormed again at the end of 2 weeks. Treat for lice if you didn't do so already. Did you buy at a sale or from a private farm? You will be able to get to know them too and they will get to know you.
