I did feel all over that side of her and she doesn't seem to be sensitive in any paticular area. Thanks for the info on foundering, it's nice to know what to look for, fortunately she doesn't have any signs of it. You are probably right about the herd mates. When I thought about it, she started limping right after she was in season and a couple of my pygmys think they are bucks and get a little rough. I'll keep an eye on her. Thanks again and Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays. - JC

With foundering the hoof will have heavy growth rings around it and the hoof walls can become very thick and somewhat misshapen. The hoof will often be hot at first and then may be cold. It will be quite tender to pressure.

Feel up in her groin area, all over the side of the udder, over the hip bones. Feel her stifle joint and carefully compare it to the other side. Be sure all joints are flexible and pain free. Likely it will heal slowly and in time she will not limp anymore. She may have gotten clobbered by a herdmate and even have a hurt back.

No, I gave it subQ in the whithers(?) alternating sides. When I watch her I can't decide if it's in the hip or in her hoof. I don't know exactly what foundering is, but I was worried about that. It's gone on so long and while it's not seriously debilitating. She is my best milker and she is such a sweetie. I just don't want to ignore something that might be serious. Thanks -JC

By any chance did you inject her in her right rear leg? I have seen oxytet injections, even SQ cause a big flat lump that may be sore. The injury is probably pretty high on the leg, in the femur or even hip.

Thanks Maggie. One more question about the same goat. She had mastitis in her right udder. I gave three doses of BioMycin and she showed clear on the test. She is now limping on her right rear leg. She puts some weight on it, but tends to hold it up or keep most of her weight off of it. I can't feel anything wrong with the leg (no swelling) and her hoof looks fine. This has been going on for about three weeks. Any ideas on what it might be?

Otomax should work fine. It is a prescription only medication. But it sounds like this is more than a simple "cruddy ears".

I have a lamancha doe that I am milking and she has a thick white discharge from her ears. I have had this before in one of my Lamanchas and I think that I used Otomax(?) I really can't remember for sure and wanted to know if someone can reccomend something to treat it. Thanks - JC
