If they have been off milk for more than a day or so reintroduce it slowly. Give small feedings of 2 ounces or so three times a day and add an ounce to each feeding every day or so. Do not ever give water in their bottle. They should be getting about 1 to 1.5 cups per feeding three times a day. More than they and they won't eat solid food, but they need the extra nutrition. Does don't wean their kids for several months, humans do it because milk feeding is expensive and time consuming, not because it is especially good for the goat.

THANK YOU! I have been praying that I wasnt going to lose these guys as they are near and dear to us and we really werent ready for goats when they came to us at 3 days old. rescued everything else but goats. i am learning so much especially from this board. perhaps in the future I will be more equipped to handle the goats taht are brought to our door.

I am running out to get some oil and i will try to call when I get these guys taken care of.

The pizzle is going to stay there. I had read numerous places where they just say lop it off with manicuring scissors. my husband just grabbed his groin, grimmaced and left the room when I described what they were suggesting we do to help the babies. I now know why. THANK YOU! and my boys frimsy and zildgen thank you! I so thought it was uc because of the trouble peeing. I feel like a huge weight is off my chest...oh wait it is...zildgen is now on the floor trying to pilage my desk side trash can. He feels good just seems miserable but I guess I would too.

let me get to the handi mart!

If the belly is urine soaked they aren't blocked! They don't have UC, they are bloated. If the goat burps relief is almost immediate. Yes being bloated can make them stop peeing because of the pressure or it can make them pee often trying to relieve the pressure.

And cutting the pizzle of DOES hurt, you are cutting off the end of the penis. IF they can pee even some cutting the pizzle off is unnecessary. Goats this young very very very rarely get UC, but they sure do get bloat!! Call me at (919) 596-0984 I am still up.

Will bloat have anything to do with them not peeing or peeing alot?

I have pulled everything but timothy hay from them and small amounts of water (if uc I dont want to add to the problem)

can I cut the pizzle off without anesthesia? I am hoping that will help. I did find little sand type pieces on ones sheath hair. The one who is greatly distended has a urine soaked belly.

They aren't ready to be weaned yet. I don't wean until 12 to 16 weeks old. Please treat for bloat (yes both sides will stick out!).Give 1 to 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil then hold the goat with the head end higher than the tail end and deeply massage the left abdomen to help break up the gas bubbles and help the goat burp. If they are bloated they aren't peeing because they aren't drinking much.

If these goats have UC at such a young age surgery is next to impossible and the outcome is nearly always poor in the long run for any age goat. It is very expensive.

They are too young to be able to cut the pizzle, they have to be able to stick their penis out and I don't think they can yet. And that only works IF the have UC (probably not at this age) and IF the stone is stuck in the very end of the penis.

You can't hardly overdose Safeguard and underdosing is almost worse than not giving anything at all. Underdosing makes resistant worms. Safeguard is nt effective anymore in most of the US, AT ANY DOSE. But if you wan to use it give 4 to 5 times the cattle or horse dose by weight for 5 days and repeat in 2 weeks. I find Ivomec Injectable for Cattle to be more effective. Give it orally to goats at 1 cc per 25 pounds. AGAIN DO NOT UNDERDOSE, it is very safe give an extra cc to be sure.

Please od not leave grain feed of 24/7 for male goats. Give all the quality hay either grass hay or alfalfa that they want. If you are feeding water in a bottle STOP! They think they are getting milk (I swear they don't taste what's in the bottle) and this can actually cause them to become OVER hydrated and for the red blood cells to burst and for them to become very anemic.

Please help!

I have two twin boer boys born 1-1-06 They have done great but what I thought was bloat may be UC.
Will bloat effect both sides or just the left?

I cannot pick up any ammonia chloride till tomorrow am (3-16-06) I need to act ASAP as the one who has just recently quit peeing is getting distended like the first. ( bad new goat owner I am as I didnt notice one wsnt peeing until tonight) he has been double side bloated for two days now.
Please tell me any home remedy that may work. vet here wont do surgery as he says it is seldom favorable. can they be saved? I cannot bear to lose them! especially since its my fault.
I did find crystals on goat number 2. (newly bloated) once i cleaned sheath area he dribbled. Can I clean him out? flush him? I am so desperate. I cant lose these precious boys.
I read about cutting the pizzle i believe its called, does this hurt them? I am running out of time! I will check in here every few minutes for replies. I know its late and most normal people are asleep...i am typing this with a crying goat on my lap.

so recap any immediate measures...ANY and does bloat cause both sides to poof out?

I want to add that we kept a pan of Dumoor goat food out for them 24/7 alnog with the yard grass and timothy hay. they are not fully weaned only they dont get milk now just water. they do have a rabbit bottle hanging on the fence as well as a large pan of clean water at all times. I have wormed them with safeguard tube wormer. small dosage as i was not sure of overdosing possibility.
