Treatment with Albon is for at least 5 days. Biosol is only given for a day or two. Yes the stool can stay blood streaked for a few days. It takes time (sometimes ALOT of time) for the gut to heal up.

Don't forget to give a probiotic, these 2 antibiotics have killed all of the good microbes in her gut too. You can use a probiotic paste or gel, or give yogurt (a tablespoon should do for a kid) for a few days once or twice a day.

Biosol can cause anorexia (no appetite). She could be having that reaction.

Today I continued the Biosol and Albon, she showed much improvement from yesterday. Ate well, even trotted and bucked and jumped in pasture with mom. She doesn't have diarrhea, never has. She has regular poop but it has bloody streaks running through it. Sometimes worse than others. She has eaten well all day but tonight she refused to nurse for the first time when I took her out for her last feeding. Hunched on mom but just stood there not nursing, tail tucked. If the Biosol and Albon have worked, would she still be passing bloody stool or is it something that takes time to heal even after the bacteria are killed. I have 3/4 cc of nuflor in a syringe that a vet gave me a year ago for another kid. It has been in my refrigerator for a year. Would you think it would be safe to use? Would that be enough for a 3 3/4 lb. baby? I'm desperate to keep her alive.

You would mix 1/4 teaspoon of Biosol in 10 cc of water then use 0.5 cc of the water/Biosol solution three times a day to dose the goat, same formula you arrived at essentially. Bloody green or yellow diarrhea can indicate salmonella and I am not sure Biosol is the best treatment for that. Biosol can cause lots of side effects, including diarrhea, kidney damage, liver damage many drugs are more effective. I wouldn't give more than 1 day or so. She will need probiotics to repopulate her gut, the Biosol pretty effectively kills all intestial microbes, good and bad. Scour Halt (spectinomycin) may be effective for salmonella or you can give Nuflor (florfenicol, you need to get this from a vet). I would try taking her off everything, giving a probiotic (a bit of yogurt will do the trick too), and give her a chance to recover.

The B complex won't hurt but she doesn't seem to have polio, so dose at the bottle recommendations. Give a 0. 3 to 0.5 cc, any extra is eliminated in the urine. B can cause a reaction, it is best to have epiniphrine on hand but I have never had a problem even giving up to 10-12 cc to an adult pygmy (who had polio).

My doeling is the one that had white pasty poop with blood. Was improving. Ugh! Today the little girl is no better...still has blood in poop but poop is yellow. She cries when she poops or is moved. I have a question about the dosage of Biosol. You suggested I use 1.5cc Biosol in 10cc water. My bottle says 1/4 t. for 25 lb. of weight. Wouldn't that be more like 1/4 cc Biosol for 2 cc of water for her weight of 3 3/4 lb.? Or is the goat dosage higher than on the bottle. I am also giving Albon. Don't want to overmedicate but want to give enough to do good. She is not active, walks slowly but did try to bounce and fell down. She looks gaunt and rather pot-bellied. She is still nursing well though but looks like she is losing body mass. Any more thoughts? Thanks for the help so much. I also asked my vet for Fortified Vit B complex and they sold me Vitamin B Complex 150...has 150mg thiamin/1cc...150mg niacin/1cc It says administer slowly and with caution in doses over 1/3 ml. What would I give to this 3 3/4 lb pygmy doeling??? Or would the vit B complex help her at this stage? Thanks, I am still trying!
