I have had good success with cleaning the hoof with a toothbrush and hydorgen peroxide and then spraying the hoof with a formula of terramycin powder and 2 pints of rubbing alcohol. I treat this daily until the hoof rot is cleared up.

I would give the Biomycin injections every other day for 3 treatments to nip it in the bud. The Kopertox stays on the hoof fine so long as the hoof it reasonably dry (not freshly soaked in bleach or something). Maybe take a look at and reapply the Kopertox every other day when you give the injections. You can squirt some Biomycin directly between the toes but don't do both. Trim the hooves well trimming out and cleaning out any pockets in the hoof wall. I use the Kopertox on any suspicious pockets and I rarely have to do this more than once. You don't need to wrap the feet, that would just trap moisture and make the problem worse. Provide clean dry bedding. Clean up any piles of bedding, hay or straw they are standing in outside (wet hay around an outside feeder is often the source of reinfection). The carpeting idea really won't do much good once the bleach solution becomes the least bit dirty, bleach solution is only effective on relatively clean surfaces (including hooves). Once it becomes dirty it loses any antibacterial properties.

Please be sure all the goats are healed before selling, you have your reputation to protect.

Hoof rot has a distinctive rotting smell. The wearing away of the inner hoof walls is likely just from having damp feet in the winter and perhaps being in the need of a good spring trimming.

Along with my last posting; I have an old piece of carpeting, I am wondering if I soaked that in the bleach-water solution, made each one stand on that, would that be sufficient? I have about 20 goats that I am doing, and the individual soaking has done a job on my hands, they are burning terribly from all the bleach yesterday. Also, would this soaking be sufficient, or do I also need to put Kopertox on to speed the recovery? Does the Kopertox bond as soon as it is applied? When I put it on, and put their hoof back down on the stand, it is as though it wipes right off where they are standing. Do I need to wrap the feed in something to keep the kopertox on? (Like an old sock or something)How many days do I do the soaking and how many days for the biomysin 200 injections? I also read that applying the biomysin right to the foot can be effective. Ideas, please. Will it be safe to sell as soon as I am done with the soakings and injections? Sorry for so many questions, I am kind of in a situation here.

Hi, I have a few nannies where the insides of their hooves are getting soft and wearing away. They are not limping, but am not sure if it is foot rot or not, and am wanting to doctor it in the most quick, effective way possible. I'm wanting to sell most of my herd, and need to be sure that they are all free of hoof rot REALLY SOON... I gave EVERYONE a foot bath today in a bleach solution. Also gave everyone biomysin 200 shots that looked like they may have it. How many days of this should I do? Thanks for any help....
