Really oxytetracycline is the best drug to use for pinkeye. It is actually excreted in the tears and that is why it works so well. Give 1 cc per 30 pounds by SQ injection once a day until the eyes clear. Use the eye ointment 2 times a day if you can, but just the injections will clear it up. Or if you just use the eye ointment it will clear up a little faster. A goat can carry pinkeye for a long time through the dried tears on its face (think about the goats standing cheek to cheek at the water trough, feed bowls and hay rack....So seemingly healthy goats that have been in contact with goats with pinkeye or goats that have had pinkeye recently can carry it into a herd and very often do. Maggie, Hi, I know this takes a long time to battle this, and probably the whole group will get this, we now have two more, they are our original goats. I know LA200 is what everyone says we should use, we lost two goats because of LA200, I'm scared to use that. I was wondering if stress can cause this, I was told that by a friend of mine, she said adding more or etc....we have saved a couple from other various things, but this is really a challenge. We do wash our hands all of the time. Not so worried about us just the goats. We did just add 14 to our family. but I did not quarantine one like I should have, the one had crusty eyes when we got him, he was treated but I guess not completed. It's a matter of should of, could of, and what if. Sorry to bother you again if you have any other suggestions, please let me know. Thank you Maggie for your time. Jan |
