I called my vet and we took Jesse to see her this morning. She had an emergency c-section, 3 kids were delivered but we were unable to save one little buck. We have a buck & doe that are healthy. The buck that we lost had meconium when delivered, his airway was difficult to clear because there was a lost of fluid & mucus, his did breath a little but his heart beat was weak and slow at around 20-40 beats/min., then stopped, we tried to rescucitate him but was unable. Jesse is doing okay.

I thought breeding my four does would be a normal & natural process...I was SOOOOO wrong. So far 2 c-sections and 1 natural delivery, and six bottle babies from the c-section Moms. One more doe still expecting, I hope things go well for her.

Thanks for your help. I called my vet as immediately after reading your response.

No this is not normal, the kid(s) is malpositioned. You need to go in and find the head and front legs or the rear leags and deliver that and any other kids behind it. Labor does not progress if she can't get a kid into the cervix, but the uterus continues to contract and shrink. If you have a vet call them to schedule a c section right away. She is in dire trouble.

She is in very active labor any bearing down should have produced a kid within 30 minutes.

Once you see clear stringy mucus you should have had kids within the hour.

I have a 3 yr. old Pygmy doe that started acting strange yesterday - out of her norm. This morning she started laboring, contracting but still walking around, eating, & drinking. She continued throughout the day, with contractions becoming more intense. Her vulvular area is swollen, dark pink/reddish & softened, very small amount of clear thick mucus, no amniotic fluid, no blood. By this evening she was exhausted. She is still drinking water, but the contractions are too painful for her to eat. She is able to get up & down, but her pregnancy weight is making it more difficult since she is so exhausted. I did a cervical check and it is almost fully dilated, I was able to feel something coming into position at the cervix, but it is difficult to reach, so I couldn't make out what it was, nothing is engaged with the pelvis.

This is her second pregnancy. Her first was at 1 yr. old, she delivered one doeling - somewhat on the large size and needed assistance with delivery by me pulling/guiding the head out. She labored without me knowing and I didn't see her until shortly before she delivered, so I'm not sure how long she labored.

I am worried because her doeling, now 2 yrs old just had an emergency c-section and had quads! She was very big and so is her Mom, so I'm worried she may be carrying more than 2 or 3 kids.

She seems to be progressing but VERY slowly. She is "whining" during contractions, breathing hard, tilting her head way back until her horns touch her back during each contraction. She appeared to "bear down" at the end of a few contractions. No "active" labor/pushing. I gave her Goat Nutri-Drench around 11pm because I was worried that she could become hypocalcemic since she has been laboring so long.

Is this normal? Or am I worrying too much?

Thanks!
Tina
