Yes give it straight from the bottle, do not dilute it. With chickens and other poultry (which is what it is labeled for, not goats) it is added to the drinking water. But birds will drink anything, goats won't drink it voluntarily as it tastes very bitter. Give at least 1 cc per 5 pounds for 5 straight days. It is quite safe, be sure to give enough. At one point I was having to give it twice a day at 4 times the dose in a kid with very resistant coccidia, she is a beautiful 3 year old doe today. Since this goat is so anemic also start it on twice daily Goat Nutridrench, Geritol (use the adult dose) or RedCell for Horses (give a half a horse dose).

Valbazen is a very effective broad spectrum dewormer, get most everything, including tapes. its just not a safe in high doses as Ivomec and is not recommended for severely dipilitated animals. The corid is no longer effective for treating coccidia, use a sulfa drug such as Sulmet, Albon or Demethox. If using a 12.5% drinking water solution give 1 cc pe 5 pounds for 5 days. It is only effective for treating cocci, and must be used for 5 consecutive days. Give an iron supplement to build the blood back up, the B complex sooths and heals the gut making it easier for the goat to digest nutrients. Corid lost effectiveness in my herd years ago, no matter how much I gave or for how long. And it can give the goat polio (thiamin deficiency). Many vets are still recommending corid unfortunately.

Candy,
The Valbazen dose sounds about right, 1cc per 10 lbs. Maggie - correct me if I'm mistaken, but Valbazen is only really effective on tapeworms and tapes don't cause the kind of anemia you are describing. You need to get some Ivomec Injectable, but give it orally at a rate of 1cc per 25 lbs. It is so safe, you can give 50 times that dose and not hurt her. The worst you can do is under-dose, because that's what makes resistant worms. She also needs something to build her iron back up - there is a product called RedCell for horses which I've never used, some people use Geritol, I give goat Nutridrench because it's what I have on hand. I also keep a bottle of Vitamin B complex handy, and give that any time I have an animal that is ill. I don't know how much it helps, but it makes me feel better. I give it orally, but it can be injected.

I've read that once they get bottle jaw, they are basically dying and you really need to pull out all the stops to save them.

Good luck

Sandi

Hello everyone,
I raise Boer goats in South Central Mississippi, & haven't had any MAJOR health problems with them until now. I bought a doe and 2 kids about 2 months ago from an auction(which I'll never do again)that had coccidia. Of course I didn't know until my whole herd is infected, which is about 30 goats, 7 of those are 2 month old kids. I had a fecal exam done, the vet said it was loaded with cocci. I started treating with Corid immediately, & everyone seems to be improving except one 1 year old SA doe. She has a huge bag(for lack of a better word) under her chin, and the whitest eyelids I have ever seen. She only weighs about 75 lbs. I gave her 10cc of Valbazen 3 days ago, & I have drenched her with Corid for 5 days, I gave her 2cc of Maxi b 1000 3 times in the last 7 days, she does not seem to be improving. She eats & her stool is normal. I wonder if I have a combination of problems. I was told to try Sulfamethazine, is anyone familiar with this and how to use it, or have any idea what is wrong.

Thanks
Candy
