Article Index "Metritis" (see also Health or Nutrition, Kidding, or Pregnancy) Article Index

Metritis is in inflammation of the uterus and quite often the only sign that characterizes metritis is slightly lowered health. It can occur at any time and not only just after kidding. Sometimes an offensive discharge is seen, but more often, the slightly lowered health indicates the possibility of this condition. Metritis can make milk unsafe for consumption and it should be heat treated prior to human or kid goat consumption as well as other animals the milk may be fed to. It is believed that healthy animals given a balanced diet will not be affected by metritis. More specifically, the lack of vitamins A and D may play an important role in lowering the risk of metritis.
