Goats & Nutrition
by Gary Pfalzbot
About the Author

The nutritional needs of goats is a subject that requires a very solid understanding of food sources and the mineral and nutrients that comprise such food sources. With goatkeeping becoming ever more popular, there are a variety of reasons for which goats are kept. And for that reason, the nutritional requirements will differ. Dairy goats have different needs than do goat goats raised for meat, fiber or performance. It is important to understand these differences when formulating your feeding program.

It has been proven over time and with experience that nutrition is directly related to health. The lack or excess of any one nutrient, vitamin or mineral may be the sole determing factor in the health of your goat. For that reason, we have included a section on the various manufactured products such as "goat blocks", "goat chows" and other products that are available. Also found within this section are facts and figures relative to such natural and manufactured grains and meals.

Poisonous Plants, while considered deadly, can range in level of toxicity and should also be considered in the equation of Goats and Nutrition. Such plants have the consequence of causing nutritional imbalances; the depletion or elevation of essential nutrients. Therefore, we recommend you also become familiar with our Poisonous Plants section as well.
