Pregnancy and kidding are two of the happier aspects of raising goats. The time from which a doe is bred until she gives birth is on average, 150 - 155 days. This will vary slightly among breeds (especially Pygmy goats), but one thing is certain - the care of the expectant doe is very important. The nutrition the doe receives during her term of pregnancy as well as her overall health, plays an important factor in the overall health of the newborn kid.

In this section both the pregnancy and actual birth (kidding) will be covered. How to deal with some of the complications that can result from the birth will also be touched upon. For more detailed information or emergency help if you should experience problems when your own goats are kidding, we recommend you take advantage of a knowledgeable goat vet in your area, or use our Goat 911 feature if vet help is not available.

The owner of an expecting doe should be well prepared and stocked for the kidding, and any complications that may arise. The moments following kidding are crucial. Be prepared! Below are several articles that deal with both preganancy and kidding. I highly recommend familiarizing oneself with all aspects of the subject. As I mentioned, kidding is a very happy time - please do not be caught unprepared and watch your happiness fade as a result.
