This section will attempt to answer and direct these requests to the appropriate location on GoatWorld or other resources for goats on the Internet for an answer or place to begin. As no one person is a total expert on any given subject, I welcome visitors input or related articles on any request found here. Request: CAE

Request: Goats are loosing their voices, sound horse when they try to cry out. Wasn't too concerned because they eat normally but now have two goats with horseness.
Response: This can be caused by a number of factors but where I'd start is with the weather conditions in your area. Dry weather can sometimes cause this to happen. Dry feed can also cause this as well. Overuse of the voice can also lead to this condition. If your goats are very vocal at all times, day or night, there is usually a symptomatic reason for this. Goats most often are very vocal if they are not being fed enough (or a proper diet) or, if they are signaling that they do not feel good. I'd take a look at the Nutrition section on GoatWorld and compare what and how you are feeding.
Request: Badly flaking skin and frequent urination.
Response: There is a good chance that your goat(s) is not receiving adequate minerals or has internal or external parasite problems. My suggestion would be to first to a close look at the skin to check for mites. Even if you have to use a magnifying glass to closely inspect the skin, do so. If small mites or lice do exist, there are several dusting powders available to treat this condition. Otherwise, check the Nutrition section on GoatWorld for proper feeding of minerals and also compare any minerals you are feeding with similar products listed at Nutritional Products also on this site. Goat improperly wormed or not wormed at all can also display this type of condition.
Request: Investment and return on dairy goats.
Response: This largely depends upon your location and the number of goats you intend to use for dairy purposes. As with any aspect of raising goats for profitability purposes, supply and demand typically rules the market here. Starting with an expensive and elaborate state-of-the-art system and equipment may not return a profit over several years if the demand is not great. Whereas starting small and establishing your operation may return a "break-even" or small profit the first year. It would be wise to check with your local Agricultural Extension agent on this subject to determine the supply and demand in your area before getting started.
