GOAT GENETICS & REPRODUCTION FIELD DAY

A Goat Field Day on Genetics & Reproduction will be held at Cornell University on Saturday, September 20th (2003). The event is open to teens and adults with an interest in dairy, meat, wool or companion goats. We will be dividing into various groups based on experience and interest for this field day so please do not hesitate to come regardless of your experience or lack there of. We have an outstanding set of workshop leaders all with a great deal of experience in either goat genetics or reproduction. We will also be running a more hands-on, active program for younger teens. Contact Judy Sherwood at (607) 255-4503 or Tatiana Stanton at (607) 254-6024 or TLS7@cornell.edu for more information and sign-ups. Cost is $10 youth, $15 adults and includes lunch. Young and active teens program - Youth will learn to identify signs of heat, explore the reproductive tract of male and female goats and learn to identify early signs of urinary calculi. They’ll play a team game to learn the consequences of indiscriminately using bucks in a breeding program. In the afternoon, the young teens will discuss goat behavior. They’ll close with a trip to the livestock pavilion to evaluate goats for breeding readiness and physical defects.
