We feed whole milk (made from powder) cold, ablib for 10-12 weeks. Cold milk (sounds mean ay?)stops kids from over feeding on an adlib system which can be a killer. We don't feed milk for longer than this because it seems to hold them back from then on. We keep them in a barn at night so all their food is for growing not keeping warm. We have free access to multi-min blocks and rock salt early on. We also have free access to straw and hay (basically anything the does have) from day one to help rumen development. Our kid meal is made up from cracked maize, lucerne(alfalfa)chaff and a little processed cottonseed (Cottpro) and fed freely until weaned then up to 1kg per day per head until about 6 months. At weaning our kids are around 23kg (what's that in pounds?)but they are Saanen so it's probably different.
