: how often does a doe cycle if she is not bred & what is a good month to breed her?

Some of this depends on where you live and the breed of goat. Most meat goats breed year round and come into heat every 21 days. Dairy breeds like Nubians here in the south start cycling in July and will have "reliable" heats every 21 days through Feb. LaMancha's, Alpines, Saanens, etc the more swiss breeds "reliably" have heats here in the south from Sept. through March every 21 days. A pregnancy is 150 days, plus or minus a day or two, my Nubains kid right at 150 days, LaManchas will kid from 145 days to 148 days. We breed in July for December kids, with the heat and humidity of the south, our winter kids grow out so much better than spring or summer born kids. Plus the added bonus of "OH! I can't possibly come to Houston for Christmas get together with the in-laws, I have does kidding!!" :) Vicki
