: Dear vicki we have mild winers in S.C. . we have 3/4 to 100 % boer goats should i wait .

With mild winters, ours are never below freezing except once in awhile, and then rarely are the water tanks still frozen by the afternoon. We breed in July/August so we have kids in Dec/Jan. What are you doing in Dec/Jan? Perhaps if you are a family man who likes to party on New Years, you may want to wait and breed Aug/Sept and have kids in Jan/Feb. Also who are you selling to? In boers surely some of you sales are to kids who will show them in meat classes, when are the local meat classes? For us I like to have doe kids born in Dec and January which gives us saleable kids and bucks who are of breeding age that year, without the wait. Bucks born later in the year aren't of breeding age and rarely will somebody purchase a buckling that they are going to hold over until the next year to use. Except those of us of course who are die hard bloodline breeders, like me :) Vicki
