signs of pregnancy

Posted by Mary on April 23, 2001 at 16:29:59:

I have two does that were ????bred in January, making their due dates the first two weeks in June. Now, can everyone give me signs I should look for to tell if they are pregnant, as I'm puzzled. They aren't showing signs of cycling, but they really didn't show signs before they were bred ( I don't have a billy living with us). I tried the method of ??bumping (where you push on their side with your fist and feel a bump back) but I didn't notice anything, although the girls weren't real cooperative with the procedure, and I didn't really know what I was doing. I know that you can do ultrasound on goats, but my vet gave me the "you've got to be kidding" look when I mentioned it. So, I'm looking for other signs that a newbie could use. The one thing I've noticed is that they do have large bellies(but this could just be due to lack of exercise during this long, long, long, long winter). Also, their teats are more noticeable than they were before, but maybe that is something that happens as they get older, and I'm unaware of it. Thanks all for your help.
