In my experience does who get udders without being bred (percocious) AND are uneven is almost always mastitis. They get staph from milking their moms mastitic udder. Harbor it in their system and when they mature and hormones start flaring they come into an udder with one side mastitic. If you don't milk it out and treat her, she freshens with mastitis that is worse.
If the udder matures evenly than it is usually hormonal coming from excellent milking lines.
