Yes this is also in the cattle business. Very few keep anything from a heifer. If you think about it, a first freshener especially at folks houses who breed these girls to have their kids at 12 months old, have been vaccinated 3 times and really haven't been around to catch much disease. They also are growing their own bodies, udder, and babies, so not much time there in building great colostrum. When the zoo came out the first year I was very surprised to hear this information, I had never thought about it in goats before, though I had been raised by a cattleman Dad, and had heard this many times by him, just never put the two together before.
