It is certainly not unusual for a doe to have edema in her udder soon after kidding. One kid will not be able to take all the milk he needs to for her to get some udder relief. I would milk out the side that is tender, most likely due to the amount of milk in it. If it is good colostrum you can freeze it for later use. If the milk is stringy and bad odor it may be mastitis. Often there will be a little blood in the milk at first as the veins and capillaries are not use to the pressure of the milk in the teats and they will break or you may break them while milking. If the side the kid is nursing is pretty full go ahead and take some out of it to give her some relief and it won't be so painful when the kid nurses. Be extremely careful if you decide to infuse, you can introduce more harmful bacteria into the teat canal and end up with more problems than you started with. Vit C tablets, 2 a feeding, will also help relieve edema. Good Luck. Kay
