I no longer work in a 'laboritory'. However I can tell you that old farmers can tell you more about breeding animals that 'biologists' in a lab ever will. There are studies and I can cite texts but at this point I don't have the time to dig them all out.

I have 5 generations of champion breeding to my credit. I started out using as much research as I could find ( I still read the journals and published studies ) but breeding high quality animals is an art not a science. You as a 'scientist' should respect and learn from the breeders here instead of implying that you 'know better' and that these theories are merely superstitious. If your only exposure to all of this in a lab you need to broaden your horizons. It doesn't always work in the field (and I refer to the field as real people working with real animals for real reasons)as it works in a computer model. For example why do my bitches produce 90% of the recessive colors they carry? Mendel's laws don't always fit what happens in the barn or the whelping box.... and if science truly had it all figured out why can't life be created in a lab?
